1stnine vs. Diamond Creek Lost 5-4
The 1sts' season has ended in a tense, exciting game that had everything but the right result. After the end of the regular season, the Stingers finished 3rd and earned a home final and Diamond Creek, losing their last two games of the regular season, finished 4th.
Adam Crothswaite started on the mound for the Stingers at Myrtle Park and was full of confidence after pitching a win last time against Diamond Creek away. A talking point at the start of the game was the start as all season, the Stingers have been very slow starters allowing the opposition to gain the upper hand. This week, game was even through two with pitchers retiring batters in order.
In the top of the third, Diamond Creek opened the scoring after a number of blooped hit just fell out of the reach of the fielders. Coach David Keyhoe urged the players to remain calm and with the full nine innings available in the semi-final, there was plenty of time.
The Stingers hit back in the 4th and 5th adding a run in each inning to take the lead and at that stage had all the momentum. In the 7th, Crothswaite tired and walked a run over the plate. Combined with good hitting from Diamond Creek, they scored another two and they had taken the lead 4-2.
In the eighth with time running out the Stingers' bats finally came to life and good hitting by Aaron Hoskin to lead off the inning, Matt Houlden and a big double by Sam Taylor scored two runs to level the game going into the ninth.
In the top of the ninth, a lead off walk didn't bode well and a steal combined with an error gave Diamond Creek the lead 5-4. In the bottom of the ninth a lead off walk to the Stingers gave them a chance to level the scores. A good sacrifice bunt by Jack Rintoul gave the Stingers a runner at 2nd with 1 out. John Anderson can in to pinch hit and was hit himself. A ground ball and a close play at first base gave the Stingers a runner at 2nd and 3rd with two out. A safe hit to the outfield would win the game for the Stingers but unfortunately it was not to be as Diamond Creek who had fielded well all game made the final out. It has been a fantastic season and an improvement after finishing 5th last year and missing out on finals altogether.

2nd nine Semi-Final vs. LaTrobe - Won 14-13
WOW WHAT A THRILLER!!! Another “BLUE COLLAR WIN” for the Stingers 2s today as our top of the league defence continued with another grand performance and our bats sang loudly as almost everyone got on base and scored during this marathon. Going down by 9 runs in the first 2 digs seemed an unsurmountable task but we kept our wits about us and came back a little at a time to take our first win from LaTrobe this year which just shows the true nature of this young side. Speedy started this week on the hill and had a bit of a rough start going 2 innings giving up 5 earned runs on 7 hits with 3 walks and 1 strike out, then Cameron came on to finish the game going 5 innings giving up 3 earned runs on 6 hits with 0 walks and 6 strike outs. Another great defensive effort to back up our pitching staff as our scorer Sue Smith only had to get out the red pencil twice. There were a few outstanding plays on this fine baseball day as Nick Dundon threw out a runner going from first to third from deep in left field with a throw that was right on the bag at a crucial time in the top of the 7th inning to get the second out and keep the Trobers at bay. Speedy picked off a runner at first whereby we got him in a run down with Speedy applying the tag. Then we had a play where Nick threw in to 3rd whilst we missed the guy going to 3rd, the batter runner was trying to take second on the throw and Chao threw to Matt M. and got him out in a great tag team effort. WELL DONE TEAM!!!!!
This win puts us straight in to the GRAND FINAL game in two weeks at Doncaster at 12 noon playing the winner of the LaTrobe vs. Bundoora match next week, so let’s everybody get out and watch us bring home the flag.
No training this Thursday night as we will be training Saturday from 10-12 with a sausage sizzle afterwards. Everybody get out and make this a good training session as well as a good social event.

Round 18: 2nd nine vs. Mitchell Majors - Won 14-6
A great day for baseball and a fantastic TEAM win for the North Balwyn Stingers 2nds today, as our top of the league defence steadied in fine form to go in to the finals next week at the top of our game. It was a great start scoring 5 runs in the first dig only to have Mitchell Majors come back and tie it in the top of the 2nd inning. We came back and scored two to go ahead in the bottom of the 2nd and it stayed that way until the 4th where the Stingers bats exploded to score 7 more runs to take a commanding lead. Great team batting again this week saw 16 hits and very few men left on base. Nick started this week on the hill going 2 innings giving up 5 earned runs on 2 hits with 6 walks and 3 strike outs, Randall came on to finish the 3rd dig and walked one then struck out the side. Then Sam came on to close and went 2 innings giving up 1 earned run on 1 hit with 1 walk and 4 strike outs. Another great defensive effort to back up our pitching staff as our scorer Terry Keyhoe only had to get out the red pencil one time. We have finished the regular season on top of the ladder so let’s continue our fine form in to finals and pick up the flag.
Hits: Jack, Matt M., Sam & Randall – 3, Cameron – 2, Nick & Matt S - 1

3rds vs Croydon Elimination Final Lost 25 -9
Croydon 19 Hits 4 Hit Pitched Balls 5 Base on Balls
NBBC 9 Hits 2 Hit Pitched Balls 4 Base on Balls
Yes I suppose the score does tell the tale. But we were looking at a complete drubbing at one stage with a 5 inning game losing more than 15 runs. We did rally to score 7 runs in the fifth to take the game to it's full alloted time. It was a little disappointing to finish the way we did but to give credit where it is due, Croydon hit the ball all day and into the gaps. Especially the gap over the other side of the home run fence when Paul C came into relief for Peter Clapp. After Paul was dragged Ben Wang came onto the mound. 3 up 3 down and that is the way it is done fellers. His next dig provided a few more balls and Paul Baker then came in to finish off the game.
Thanks to Paul Baker and Peter Clapp who umpired the game. Thanks to Cheryl our main scorer and all the other scorers who helped during the season, and thanks to all those who played in this enjoyable season in the thirds.
I have had a good time as the coach of the thirds over the past few seasons and last season with a grand final win was obviously a highlight, but it is not the only one. It is an absolute pleasure to see some of the juniors take the next step and advance tot he 2's and 1's. It is also a highlight to see the development of the club over the past few years especially the conditions of the club rooms and training facilities with a lot of the work being done by our President and Secretary.
Peter and Matt on behalf of the thirds and rest of the club I would like to thank you and all the committee for the great work you have done again this year.
We as players don't see the amount of effort these blokes have to put in for us to be able to have trouble free year. It is very much appreciated.
Congratulations to the 1st's for making the finals and we all are hoping the 2's can win one more game for the season, best of luck to Randall and the 2nds.
Under 17s vs Diamond Creek WON 9 - 0
It was an easy win for U17s’ Stingers last week as Diamond Creek with only 6 players forfeited.
We enjoyed a scratch game for the end of the season!!!!!
Junior Presentation Night will be 10th of September (Wed).
However we have not confirmed a venue and exact time of commencement yet (likely to be around 7pm).
