UMPIRES

The club depends on the volunteer contribution of its players to ensure it maintains its basic operations. Umpires are no exception and we need players to umpire home games. There is no need to be a professional umpire basic knowledge of the game will suffice. In return, players get a chance to brush-up their umpiring skills and their knowledge of the game. You will also be eligible for a free hot dog and drink after your game as a thank-you. Same for scoring.

In order to be fair to everyone, the club will be producing an umpire roster. When it is your turn if you are unable to make it, you will need to find replacement.

Congratulations to Callum Jackson and Justin Limburg who have been selected in the Ringwood District Little League Representative Team and this week will travel to Boneo to take on the best of the rest. This year was a fantastic result with a number of juniors representing the club at District Level. This is the most for many years and really shows the growth and improvement in the junior section of the club. Congratulations to those who have represented the club this season and also well done to all those who have tried out. It is fantastic experience and something that will help your baseball for the future.

1st Nine vs Reservoir - Lost 2-8

The 1sts have continued their poor form this time losing to Reservoir at home. In a very important game that promised to be tough with teams 3rd and 4th on the ladder prior to the game, the weather did neither team a favour and the strong wind made hitting very difficult.

Yoshi Hanami started on the mound but struggled in the cold, blustery conditions and went 4 innings, for 4 hits, 3 strike outs and 3 runs. However it was the walks combined with untimely errors which meant that none of the runs were earned. After a recent short break, Sam Taylor continued on the mound but also struggled in the conditions giving up 1 hit, but allowing 5 walks, 5 runs (2 earned). The final score was 8 (2 earned) - 2. Offensively, the Stingers matched Reservoir but defense was again the critical factor in deciding the match.

With the win, Reservoir now move ahead of the Stingers on percentage to leave North Balwy in 4th position.

Next week the Stingers travel to Broadford to take on the Mitchell Majors in a must win game.

Hits: Taylor, Hoskin, Hanami, Rogers, Houlden

RBIs: Rogers, Houlden

2nd Nine vs Reservoir - Won 12-1

The North Balwyn Stingers had one of their best efforts of the season as everyone had a hit and almost everyone scored on this fantastic day of baseball. Adam started on the hill this week having a great day out going the distance for 5 innings giving up 1 run on 4 hits with 4 walks and 12 strike outs going a complete game, great effort Adam. We played a great defensive game with no errors and a couple of heads of plays to keep the Reservoir team from scoring on a couple of occasions. An outstanding day with the bats while everyone got at least one hit on the day. Good focus on the day as sometimes when your pitcher is doing such an outstanding job it can be difficult to keep your concentration – well done to all.

We are away this week against Mitchell Majors so let's get together and sort out the bus rides.

Training Thursday night followed by our traditional pizza fest.

Hits –Cameron – 3, Chao & Nick D. - 2, Speedy, Matt M., Adam, James, Andrew R. & Randall – 1.

Under 17s vs Greensborough Lost 11-2

At Elder Street Reserve, against a very solid team, Greensborough, North Balwyn Stingers played very well.

Although the opponent pitchers were dominant all the time, everyone was aggressive at the box and kept swinging hard through the game. Eventually we scored 2 runs in the last inning with a hit and some walks.

While Greensborough kept hitting all day, we made some nice plays in the infield and outfield.
