UMPIRES
The club depends on the volunteer contribution of its players to ensure it maintains its basic operations. Umpires are no exception and we need players to umpire home games. There is no need to be a professional umpire basic knowledge of the game will suffice. In return, players get a chance to brush-up their umpiring skills and their knowledge of the game. You will also be eligible for a free hot dog and drink after your game as a thank-you. Same for scoring.
In order to be fair to everyone, the club will be producing an umpire roster. When it is your turn if you are unable to make it, you will need to find replacement.

1st Nine vs Mitchell Majors - WON 11-2
Continuing with the form found last week, the first have come away from the weekend with another strong win. This time we hit the road to play the Mitchell Majors Baseball Club. As the Majors are the new kids on the block (after coming across from the Goulburn Valley League), we were unsure of what to expect. Although the Majors were strong all day, we managed to do the job with bats and record an 9 run victory (11-2). Starting on the mound for us this week was Dave “Dirty” Keyhoe, who kept the ball away from the bats of the big hitting Majors line up. In a (strong) relief role was Yoshi “Cannons” Hanami, who yet again did the job to close out the game for us. This week was a real team effort with every player doing their bit to help with a solid victory. Round 4 (next week), will see us come up against the fourth placed Diamond Creek Baseball Club.
After the game we all enjoyed a fantastic BBQ in a well equipped canteen and then got driven home. Big shout out to Dave for driving. Until next time, GO STINGERS!!
2nd Nine vs Mitchell Majors - WON 26-2
A resounding win this week by the seconds over Mitchell Majors despite the long trip up, with some of the young guns arriving late because of participating in the junior games. Welcome back to the hill Sam Taylor who pitched a great game going 3 innings giving up 1 earned run on 1 hit with 1 walk and 4 strike outs. Welcome to Matt Mulcahy on his debut with the Stingers who did a great job with the bat and coming in to shortstop later on with a good defensive effort. Along the defensive side we had a solid performance by all with our fabulous scorer Amanda only needing to get out the red pen twice. Hits were a plenty on this fine baseball day as we chalked up 18 altogether and only giving up 2. Well done by Harley who had 2 sacs for the day.
It is now time to focus on the next challenge at Diamond Creek this week who usually put together a pretty good side.
Hits – Sam – 4, Jack, Alex, Chao & Matt S. -3, Randall – 2, Matt M. – 1,
RBIs – Sam – 4, Alex & Matt S. – 3, Jack, Chao, Harley, Matt M. & Randall – 2

3rd Nine vs Forrest Hill - WON 24-1
Hits 4: Peter Clapp, Paul Conheady 3: Garry Shipp, Barry Cranston 2: Stephen Redfern, Mike Slape, Andy Rose 1: Ben Davis, Tony Clapp
RBI's 6: Barry Cranston, 4: Stephen Redfern 3: Ben Davis, Garry Shipp, 2: Paul Conheady, Mike Slape, Andy Rose 1: Peter Clapp
There is not a real lot to say about this game. Forrest Hill are a little under manned, but we did what we had to. We followed last weeks form in the batters box hitting the ball, especially when it counts. In the second innings we had 2 out with 1 run on the board, we went ont to score 10. Again 2 out in the 4th innings bases loaded we scored another 5.
Peter Clapp started on the mound giving up only 1 run for the day and with another 4 hits had another good day out. Paul C relieved Peter to gain a bit of practice. There were 3 fielding errors which gives us a bit to work on, but all in all a good day.
Highlight of the day:- Barry Cranston 5 at bats 1 Base on balls 3: hits 6 RBI's. All 3 hits were Texas Leaguers. (fly balls falling in between the infield and outfield, just not Forrest Hills day.) Welcome to Ben Davis playing his first game for the club. Ben came into the game about 5 minutes into the first innings when David Cranston fielding at short stop strained his groin trying to field a ball. We all wish you the best for your recovery.

Under 15s vs Heathmont- Lost 7-8
Round 2, was, save for not a win ,a great success for our team..
Jess Rintoul again was workman like and did all that was asked of him. For newer parents pitching can be both stressful and demanding on young bodies but Jess is cool and effective.
David Slape played out of his skin behind the plate and stopped everything in the dirt with determination, not realised before.
Tim Ross taking an outfield throw from Jamie and tagging a greedy runner at second.
Six or our boys crossed the plate to score runs, Adam crossing twice .
5 safe hits were recorded and seven walks, 3 batters hit by the pitcher this again shows the batters are developing discipline in the batters box. Our base running was what kept us well in the hunt.
This was the first time base running was Coached aggressively. The aim being to support our batters at the plate by distracting and creating pressure on opposing pitchers, this was successful and went along way to evening the game balance from the first week.
As a team we retired the opposition three times with a total of 5 runners left on base which shows application under scoreboard pressure.
The parental support this week was great and necessary.
Special thanks to Simon Ross who put his hand up to assist in any area, I heard he can Umpire and he showed knowledge and accuracy at that sometimes thankless task, I would believe the team would benefit from the discipline of Simon umpiring.
Rowan was great support, Coaching third base and throwing batting practice.
This week we managed three scorers which augers well for depth in our team.
I am proud to have started my baseball career at Southern Districts in Adelaide . I had the best Coaching , best club structure and opportunities, and this is my goal for North Balwyn .
