2007 UMPIRES TRAINING CAMP
The 2007 annual umpire training course is to be held in conjunction with the VPBL tryouts and will consist of separate sessions designed to cover aspects of baseball umpiring with extensive rules theory, on-field sessions, in-cage ball/strike training and umpiring of live games, all under the direct supervision of our instructors.
Instructors will include current ABF accredited instructors form local and interstate who have attended Umpire school in the USA. This will ensure that the latest teachings in Mechanics, Theory and Rules interpretation are presented.
It is hoped that as many umpires as possible will attend, as these training sessions are an integral part of your accreditation.
Costs for the weekend are kept to a minimum, and details will be forwarded to those that respond closer to the date, but are anticipated to be no more than $40 per person.
Due to previous difficulties, you will be required to organize your own accommodation. If you require some assistance in this regard please contact us and we will point you in the right direction. Attendees are encouraged to stay due to extensive time commitment required by the course.

GOOD SPORTS PROGRAM
Sports clubs such as ours play a significant role in the community and therefore have a responsibility to our members and their families. in recognition of this, the North Balwyn Baseball Club has elected to participate in the Australian Drug Foundation's Good Sports program.
The program is run in Victoria by Good Sports in conjunction with the Australian Drug Foundation, TAC, Vic Health and the Alcohol Education Rehabilitation Foundation. The program has been designed to assist clubs with the responsible management of alcohol and is the only nationwide program of its kind.
As a community based club we believe involvement in this program is a way for our club to promote a healthy and welcoming club culture whilst working to consistently meet our duty of care obligations in regards to alcohol consumption.
To become Good Sports Level 1 accredited we will address a number of criteria including having members trained in the Responsible Serving of Alcohol.
For more information about the Good Sports program contact Matthew Houlden (northbalwynbc@yahoo.com).

2nd nine vs Waverley - WON 26-12
A tremendous effort by the young guns this week for their first finals game thumping the Footscray Doggies 26-12. An errorless game with Sam on the hill going 4 innings giving up 1 run on 2 hits with 2 walks and 5 strike outs. Brought Nick Dundon in to close who had a difficult time finding the strike zone going 1/3 inning giving up 9 runs (1 earned) on 3 hits with 4 walks and 0 strike outs we then turned to Chao who struggled finding the strike zone s well hitting one batter and walking the next going 1/3 innings giving up 2 runs (0 earned) on 2 hits with 4 walks and 1 strike out as we then brought in Sam who through one pitch for a fly ball to left field for time and game. Good experience to the young guys this week as the next two weeks will surely be a different type of game and much more challenging. Our bats sang loud on the day as we hit 538 as a team and seemed to do everything right on the base paths. A very good attitude and game overall.
Hits - John, Sam, Francisco & Jack -3, Chao, Aaron & Nick D. -2, Victor, Nick C. & Randall -1 Ribs - John & Sam -5, Francisco & Jack -4, Aaron -3, Nick D. -2, Chao, Nick C. & Randall -1

12 | La Trobe Uni is the next challenge at Knox at 12 noon next Saturday, let's all get to training again this week and continue towards securing the flag.
Thanks to all the fans for rocking up and giving us your support - See you next Saturday at Knox.
3rd nine vs Waverley - WON 5-12
Hits 3 Peter Clapp 2 Paul Shipp Joey Yu Paul C David Cranston Andy Rose 1 Barry Cranston Tony Clapp RBI's 3 Peter Clapp Garry Shipp 2 Joey Yu Andy Rose 1 Paul C David Cranston
First final and a good win. Waverley's hitting has been suspect throughout the season but they came out first innings 3 hits to the outfield and 2 getting bat on ball to the infield, yet only one run scored. We had 16 hits to 10, no fielding errors and better base running. It was a well deserved win as we out played them, though it was a hard game played in good spirits.
Paul Shipp pitched the whole seven innings with 99 pitches thrown, well done Paul. The whole starting nine got at least one hit for the day and this was the difference as we only left 3 runners on base 2 of those in the first dig.
Play of the day goes to the ball claiming 1 broken windscreen, 2 dinted rooves and one dinted door. See you all at Greensborough next week.
