SUMMER BASEBALL

For those whom has joined the mailing list, an email was sent out to see who would be interested in playing baseball in the summer season, unfortunately we are not able to get enough players to make a team (we need at least 12), therefore North Balwyn will not participate in the summer baseball league this year.

If you still want to play baseball during summer, Preston Baseball Club is welcoming anyone from North Balwyn Baseball Club to play at their club for the summer season, please contact their club president Alex Djorgonoski on mobile 0411 701 122 or email alex@nicholsonre.com.au.

GOOD SPORTS PROGRAM

Sports clubs such as ours play a significant role in the community and therefore have a responsibility to our members and their families. in recognition of this, the North Balwyn Baseball Club has elected to participate in the Australian Drug Foundation's Good Sports program.

The program is run in Victoria by Good Sports in conjunction with the Australian Drug Foundation, TAC, Vic Health and the Alcohol Education Rehabilitation Foundation. The program has been designed to assist clubs with the responsible management of alcohol and is the only nationwide program of its kind.

As a community based club we believe involvement in this program is a way for our club to promote a healthy and welcoming club culture whilst working to consistently meet our duty of care obligations in regards to alcohol consumption.

To become Good Sports Level 1 accredited we will address a number of criteria including having members trained in the Responsible Serving of Alcohol.

For more information about the Good Sports program contact Matthew Houlden (northbalwynbc@yahoo.com).

Results

1st nine vs Bundoora - WON 12-2

RBI's: Tim 4, Billy 2, Matty , Yoshi, Sam Taylor, Lenny and Jack Rintoul 1 each.
Hits: Matty 3(1 double), Tim 2, Billy (double), Lenny, Speedy and DK 1 each

Due to a coaching "oversight", we started the game with only 8 players and had to bat a blank in the second innings. Jack Rintoul subbed at left field and entered the game in the 3rd. as did Nick Dundon who replaced a sick coach. Billy hurt his hand and was ably replaced by Speedy behind the plate and Randall in the batting box. Thanks to all these guys for sticking around for the second game.

Yoshi was back on the mound and did a great job, plenty of strikes and only two free bases. Sam Taylor played short stop with Carlos away and did a faultless job including a hot pick up and PO in the 2nd base hole in the 4th.

Next Saturday is shaping as our first final we have great form going into the game with our last 3 games yielding 47-3. This week will be tougher however, and I want to see as many faces as possible at training on Thursday night. Pizzas are on after training so stick around for a feed/drink/chat.

GO NORTH

2nd nine vs Bundoora - WON 7-3

A good solid come back win this week for the young guns defeating the Bundoora Brumbies 7-3. James came back this week with a good solid performance on the hill going 4 + innings only giving up 2 runs on 2 hits with 5 walks and 6 strike outs. Randall finished out the last two digs giving up 1 run on 2 hits with 0 walks and 2 strike outs. A good solid defensive game this week by all as well with only 2 errors registered in the book. Good to see some of the young guns bats are coming alive because we will need them to be cracking during finals to have a good shot at the flag. We are on track to go to finals so we must be preparing ourselves this week with a tough game against Waverly at home for the last game of the season.

Hits - Jack, John & Randall - 2, Nick C., Chao & Victor - 1.
RBIs - Jack & John - 2, Nick C , Chao & Randall - 1.

3rd nine vs Research - WON 15-12

Hits 4 Fransico Gonzalez 3 Paul Shipp Joey Yu Garry Shipp 2 Paul C 1 Hugh Read David Cranston
RBI's 4 Paul C 1 Joey Yu Fransico Gonzalez David Cranston Hugh Read Paul Shipp Garry Shipp

In total we had 18 hits, the same as Research much better than last week. Welcome to Fransico and Hugh from the 2nd's their first game in the 3rds this year thank-you both for helping to make numbers throughout the club. Fransico having a good day with the bat and having his first ever go at catching, showing some definite promise there. Paul Shipp started on the mound and did a great job Paul C relieved him after 3 innings to preserve his arm for next week although when our lead was cut from 7 to 2 runs there were some queries if I should put him back. Our batters did the job though and gave us a 5 run lead going into the last we held on for a good win to retain second spot on the ladder and the double chance, which we play for this week against Knox.

4th nine vs Glen Iris - WON 8-13

We had a fantastic game this week! Thanks to Peter and Tony Clapp, and Kim DeBonde coming to give the 4th a hand.

We didn't start well, but manage to fight till the end and got 6 runs in the last inning which gave us the victory. Matt Wang started on the mount and did very well, but Glen Iris batted ten times in the first inning due to fielding errors. Then our fielding got better and hold them down for only four runs by the end of the 5th inning. Petter Clapp came onto the mount in the 6th inning and only pitched 5 balls to stop them from scoring any further.

It was great to win the game, but I think it's even better to see our "not giving up" attitude that gave us the win.

5th nine vs La Trobe Uni - Lost 26-4

Not a very pleasant game for us as our fielding struggles to stop La Trobe Uni from scoring. But our first time baseballer Tom Williams managed to pull an unassisted double play in the 2nd inning and also batted very well.

Mal Fawcett started on the mount well, but was not able to find the zone in the 3rd inning, plus La Trobe Uni was aggressive at bat and took fourteen runs by the end of 4th inning. Ben Wang came on mount in the 5th inning and did a great job with only four batter to finish that inning. But in the last inning, Ben pitched hard in the strike zone but fielding didn't back him up and let La Trobe Uni took twelve runs.

We are doing OK at bat, but we need to work hard on our fielding so we can back up our pitcher when he is working hard to get in ball in the zone.

Under 15s vs Knox Falcons - Lost 10-2

U15s took Knox Falcons at Mytrle Park. Steve started on the mound and did a great job until Seb came in and finished off the game. Will and Graeme did a tough job behind the plate through the game. Our fielders also supported the pitchers with great play.

However, again, we were not strong enough to hit the ball in the batter box as they, Knox Falcons, pitched so hard. Despite the hard situation, we were much more aggressive than last week and everyone swung hard to every pitch.

This week's game will be the last game for the season. Let’s have fun and win the game against Ringwood Redsox.

Under 13s vs Ringwood Redsox - Lost 0-7

A sluggish start this week against Ringwood saw Ringwood get out to a 7 run lead after 3 innings. Tim started on the mound and struck out 3. Callum relieved and also did well striking out 4. In the bottom of the 4th the bats finally started talking and a string of hits to Zac, Mike, Jamie and Jesse scored 7. Unfortunately we were out of time and the game had to revert back to the previous inning where we didn't have any runs. It just goes to show that if you put the ball in play and swing the bats anything can happen. This is the final game this week.
