Damlow Nomination
This week's nomination goes to Jack Rintoul. In his first game for the 1sts, "Me Off" as he has been dubbed by Speedy went up to bat with his helmet on backwards. He was about to step into the box with the helmet on backwards and only prompting from the bench rectified the situation. Funny stuff.

4ths game this week at home
A call has been placed to Glen Iris to try and organize that game to be played later so only one diamond has to be used. Please stay tuned but unless told by your coach on Thursday's training please assume that game time is normal at 12:30pm.

HOME GROUND AFTER GAME
Can all team played at home please make sure that the ground is left as you found it at the end of the day.

UPMIRES
The club depends on the volunteer contribution of its players to ensure it maintains its basic operations. Referees are no exception and we need players to umpire for local games. There is no need to be a professional umpire basic knowledge of the game will suffice. In return, players get a chance to brush-up their umpiring skills and their knowledge of the game. You will also be eligible for a free hot dog and drink.
In order to be fair to everyone, the club has produced a draft umpire roster. Please check it out and note when you are umpiring. You will need to find replacement if you cannot umpire your game. Replacement arrangements can be made with Jason Smith on 9421 2887 or 0432 547 222.

1st nine vs Doncaster - WON 15-1
RBI's: Yoshi and Carlos 3 each, Matt H and Billy 2 each, Tim O'Meara 4, DK and Jack Rintoul 1 each.
Hits: Carlos and DK (triple) 3 each, Matt H, Yoshi (2 doubles) and Jack Rintoul 2 each, Tim (double), Billy Rogers (triple), Speedy 1 each.
Our game against Doncaster got off to a bad start. We lost Alex Canney to a broken wrist on Thursday, Sam Taylor pulled out on Friday, Lenny pulled out sick on Saturday, and then Yoshi arrived at the ground looking like the walking dead with the flu. We would have been happy with just a win under these circumstances but to end with a 15-0 win is a credit to the whole team.
Jack Rintoul filled the spot at left field and showed great promise in his first game in the firsts at 15 years old. Jack finished with 2 hits and hit the ball cleanly every time up at the plate, he caught everything that came his way in the outfield.
Our hitting was fantastic, the cramped warm up area proved no hindrance and everyone hit well from the start. Carlos was fantastic again, hit very well and picked up everything at short stop. Yoshi had to play, even though he was sick, filled in at 2nd base and ended up with two doubles and 3 RBI’s, thanks for making the effort Yoshi. Billy called a great game behind the plate.
Two games to go and a win against Bundoora this week is imperative. Training Thursday night at North Balwyn, all expected.
2nd nine vs Footscray - Lost 4-12
Rough start to this one as we went down to the Footscray Doggies 12-4. James struggled on the hill early giving up 6 hits, 3 walks and 1 strike out for 8 runs in 1 + innings, Sam came on in relief and gave up 6 hits, 4 walks and 5 strike outs for 4 runs in 5 innings. This is a different side than we saw last time we played and will be different again when we meet them in the finals as they will be missing a couple of key players. We also had a couple of key errors that cost us at inopportune times so we must focus a bit more during these type of situations. We hit the ball pretty well this week but couldn't string them together to get the runners advanced and home when needed. We are still in the hunt for the finals and need to come back with a strong showing next week against Bundoora at their home ground. We missed Alex this week who will be out for the season with a broken wrist - our best wishes to you heal well and quickly.
Hits - Sam-3, Nick D & Chao-2, Nick C., Hugh, James & Victor-1. RBIs - Sam-3, Chao-1.

3rd nine vs Research - WON 6-8
Hits 3 Paul C 1 Kim de Bonde Tony Clapp
I have it as we won 8-6. It was probably more like Research lost it 6-8.
Research had 10 hits to our 5 their fielding was up to par and their pitcher was awarded the 3 points for the game. But yes Nth Balwyn did have the win. Peter Clapp pitched the whole game and did an admirable job. We had a couple of sloppy fielding moments which may have cost a run or two, but generally the fielding was ok. We won it in the last innings 6-2 down their pitcher became a little tired and could not quite hit the zone, although his pace did not slacken, he walked a couple and I had a hit to score 2 runs to tie up the game. Research brought in a relief pitcher and we got another couple of walks to receive the win. This has now guaranteed us a place in the finals and we are now fighting for the double chance. We play Research again this week and I am hoping we hit the ball a little better this time.
The play of the day goes to Michael Huang who umpired for us after umpiring the 4th. He could not play because of an injured ankle yet he managed to hobble around being on his feet for 4 and a half hours. Thank-you Michael.
4th nine vs Knox - Lost 2-23
The 4th had a tough outing against Knox on Saturday. Ben Wang started on the mound, and found it hard to get into rhythm, whilst Knox took the opportunity and scored many runs in the first inning through bad-balls, hits and fielding errors.
Our batting was fairly solid through out the game, but couldn't capitalize with runners in scoring positions. As the game went on, our fielding was good at times but on other occasions we were committing more errors again.
Hopefully we can improve on our fielding this week, and continue with our good batting form.
5th nine vs Ringwood - Lost 7-16
A much better day for us even though we lost 16-7. We still committed 7 errors including 2 myself, but a much better effort by. Both Jade Tu and James Wilkinson took good catches in the outfield and some good plays at 1st by Dave Nodin who also hit well.
Batting discipline was great with 9 walks issued. Unfortunately we had 5 batters hit (forcing Glenis out of the game with an injured wrist) in the 1st 2 and a 3rd innings coupled with some bad calls almost ruined an ok day. But the day belonged to Andy Milne who took on the role of catcher. Great effort for the 1st timer.
Under 15s - BYE
No Game.
Under 13s vs Waverley Red - Lost 2-11
A much better performance this week against a pretty good Waverley team. Things didn't start the best in the first inning with 7 runs. However after that we hit back straight away scoring a run. The highlight effort of the day was Rahul who came in to pitch the last inning and struck out two hitters. They couldn't handle the change of pace from Tim. Sensational effort. There are only two games left in the season now. How time flies.
