Results

1st nine vs Melton - WON 20-0

RBI’s: Carlos 5, Tim O’Meara 4, Sam Taylor 3, Matt H and Billy, 2 each, Lenny 1

Hits: Carlos 4(1 double), Sam Taylor 4, Matt H and Tim 2 each, Billy Rogers, John Anderson, Speedy, and Lenny 1 each.

A great win on Saturday and equally pleasing to see some new guys in the team all performing well. Alex Canney played his first game in the 1sts and at 15 years of age, is bound to play plenty more. Alex started the game at third base and looked comfortable all day in the batting box. Congratulations to Victor Ting on his first game up in the 1sts. Sam Taylor started the game on the mound in his first full game in the 1sts and ended up with a no-hitter, 4 safe hits and 3 RBI’s, in what is surely one of the most impressive debuts since Boelly was a boy. Sam threw 5 innings and struck out 8 out of 16 total hitters.

Carlos and Tim maintained their great seasons with the bat and had plenty of support throughout the order. Matty, Billy, John, Speedy and Lenny all had good days with the bat and were faultless in the field.

Next week against Doncaster will be harder and we all need to get down to training Thursday night and hone our skills. We need to win all our remaining games to be assured of a spot in the 4.

A massive thank you to Randall who at the last minute stepped up to umpire when a mix up had nobody ready to go. Also thank you to Jack and Sam for umpiring. Thats right 3 umpires.

No Game This Week. In other news here is what happened while North Balwyn sat this round out. You get 2 points for a bye and that sees the 2nds sitting in 3rd. With a game against Footscray this week, this game will go a long to to suring up a finals berth.

RBI's. 6 David Cranston Garry Shipp 4 Andy Rose 2 Peter Clapp Kim de Bonde 1 Joey Yu Paul Conheady Barry Cranston

Trying to field a team is often hard for Panton Hill but to play them is always a sociable outing and is always good to catch up with them.

Aside from this though we did what we needed to do, have a win and make it a good one for percentage. Nick Dundon pitched the game for us doing a very good job as the score suggests, three times shutting the innings down with two or more runners on base. The most pleasing part of the day was to see some of the players needing hits, get them. David Cranston and Andy Rose were 2 such players with 4 solid hits each driven hard to score runs and get on base. The fielding was good this week and routine plays were executed without a lot of fuss. Welcome to Kim de Bonde to the side making his return after a few years in the wilderness, a couple of hits and a few good pickups at first base shows he still has it.

Play of the day a tie between David and Andy for their hitting. Sorry Garry that muffed fly cost it for you.
See you all at home vs Research.

The thirds sit also in 3rd spot (bit of a trend developing) and are assured of a finals berth, however the double chance is there for the taking. 4th spot is also there for the taking.

4th nine vs Glen Iris - Lost 23-7

A lost that shows we really need to work hard on our fielding.

We started the game well by leading 0-3 the first inning, but in the second inning Glen Iris started to show their aggressive batting and they did very well by hitting almost every single ball that Tristan pitched, plus a few errors in fielding helped boost their score to 13-5 at the end of the fourth inning. Ben Wang came up to the mount in the fourth inning, but it was too late.

Our batting has improved significantly and our aggressive "get-on-base" attitude can really frightens the opposition, now we need to work on our fielding so we can keep the opposition from scoring.

5th nine vs Ringwood - Lost 4-19

We out hit Ringwood this week, but we lost 19-4. With 10 errors, 10 walks, no backing up and no talking left Ringwood's base runners with a free hand.

We welcomed Mal Fawcett to the mound for his 1st appearance, a little earlier than expected. 5 walks, 6 hits and 6 strikeouts isn't too bad for a first go. Next week we play Ringwood again, I know we can do better.

Under 15s vs Waverley - Lost 0-16

U15s had a tough day at Mytrle Park against Waverley. On the mound, our pitchers struggled to throw strikes and gave up 11 walks in total. Our fielders, however, did a great job behind the pitchers. Everyone worked hard to stop and block the balls. Especially, Tim beautifully caught a huge pop-up fly in the center field in the beginning of second inning. Also, Steve caught another pop-up fly at the first base.

Unfortunately we did have enough strength in the batter box to get any runs against Waverley’s pitchers. Despite great pitches by Waverley, Tom smashed an awesome shot to the right field, he got out at the first base though.

We need to have great eyes in the batter box as well as to be more aggressive to hit the ball. Let’s have great trainings during the next 2 weeks and get back strong in the next game.

Under 15s vs Knox - Last week

Last week the Under 15s took on the might of Knox and although the game went the way of Knox in the end, a massive highlight was Stephen Redfern and his HUUUUUUUUUGE homerun to centrefield. It landed well and truly over the Under 15s fence and around 20m short of the senior distance! As a point of reference, the senior fence is around 110 to 120m from home plate. That is around twice as big as the cricket 6 distance.

Under 13s vs Waverley Red - Lost 20-2

A game where we showed up in body, but not really in spirit. Although we hit the ball around and the pitchers did a reasonable job, it seemed as though everyone was not quite ready to play this week. Waverley are always a tough team and they hit the ball pretty well. This week we are playing our final home game for the year against the other Waverley team.

From time to time pictures of games may appear in the newsletter of yourself or your child.

DAMLOW NOMINATION

The damlow nomination this week goes to Aaron Hoskin for his lovely salmon singlet which he sported to the ground last week against Melton. There was a spirited debate ensued regarding whether the singlet was actually pink or orange and in the end we all settled on salmon.

If anyone else has anything that anyone associated with the club that is funny, silly or just plain stupid then let us know!
