70TH ANNIVERSARY DINNER HUGE SUCCCESS

UPMIRES

The club depends on the volunteer contribution of its players to ensure it maintains its basic operations. Referees are no exception and we need players to umpire for local games. There is no need to be a professional umpire basic knowledge of the game will suffice. In return, players get a chance to brush-up their umpiring skills and their knowledge of the game. You will also be eligible for a free hot dog and drink.

In order to be fair to everyone, the club has produced a draft umpire roster which is now version 2 given that some teams have swapped around. Please check it out and note when you are umpiring. You will need to find replacement if you cannot umpire your game. Replacement arrangements can be made with Jason Smith on 9421 2887 or 0432 547 222.

Summary:

A fantastic end to a great weekend for the Club.

Special thanks to Peter and Amanda and everyone else who put together a memorable night on Friday. The night was well supported by our senior players but none showed the effects of a big night on Saturday with 2 wins from 2 games.

The 1sts put in an all round solid team performance with plenty of unselfish baseball resulting in a big win.

Yoshi was driven on the mound and got ahead from the start he ended with 9 strike outs from 18 hitters. Importantly, we learnt from the previous week, no walks, and no errors and always ahead in the count resulted in 0 runs to the second placed team.

Our hitters teamed well, 7 players had hits including 3 from 3 for Tim. We decided to bunt early with rain approaching and Billy was first to lay down a successful bunt, Speedy put another down in the last which helped our 9 th run into scoring position.

Another tough game next week against the 4 th. placed team, let’s all get down to training and keep the momentum going.

Training Thursday night at North Balwyn - 6.30pm.

2nd nine vs Waverley - Lost 4-4

A great team effort this week as everyone contributed to an 8-6 win over LaTrobe Uni to show all we are in the hunt for the flag this year. The start to this game saw LaTrobe getting 2 guys on in the first dig and our tough defence not giving up a run. We came back to score 4 in the bottom of the dig to gain a solid position in the early stages. Another outstanding performance from Aaron on the mound going 3 innings and giving up 4 runs on 3 hits with 2 strike outs. Alex came in to relieve and had a solid outing as well for 2 innings giving up 2 runs on 2 hits with 4 strikeouts and even though LaTrobe was threatening in the bottom of the last inning with bases loaded he struck out 2 of the 3 to finish strong. Chao, Aaron and Sam getting timely hits to drive in runs was the offensive key to this game as we came through with hits when needed although we still left 6 stranded so this is something we need to improve on. Fantastic effort by Jack behind the plate as he blocked everything that came his way again. Good win guys – keep up the good work and we will finish strong.

Hits –Aaron – 2, Alex, Chao, Sam, Nick - 1

Damlow Nomination

This week's nomination goes to John Anderson of the 1sts. After last weekend's game which was absolutely FREEZING COLD, most players changed their wet uniforms and put on dry pants and a nice warm jacket. John thinking he was back up in Rockhampton put on shorts and thongs!

Anything like this or something completely different, send it it.
