1st nine vs Waverley - Lost 6-8
RBI’s: Tim 3, Carlos 2, Billy 1
Hits: Carlos 2 (1 double), Tim (homerun), Lenny, Yoshi, Billy, Speedy, Aaron and DK – 1 each
A disappointing result but an encouraging day at Waverley. We started with a bang in the first, Lenny led off with a hit again and started a 6 run first innings. The highlights were the Carlos double to score 2 runs and a huge homerun by Tim to score 3 runs. Waverley consolidated from that point and importantly, allowed neither a base-on-balls nor an error for the remainder of the match.
Our defense was solid but we allowed 2 errors which both resulted in runs and 2 of 4 walks resulted in runs. In the end, this was the difference between the teams. Waverley showed that the game is never over, scored 2 in the first, then 3, 2, 0 and 1. Billy did a great job behind the plate for the whole game and also had an important single to score a run in the first.
We will get at least one more crack at Waverley before the season ends and now know that we can beat them with a more consistent performance. Right now we need to focus on the game this week against Latrobe.
Training Thursday night at North Balwyn - 6.30pm.

2nd nine vs Waverley - Lost 4-4
“A tough day at the office” stated by Dirty Dave as each time we got something going we cracked a hard hit ball right at one of their defenders only to result in an easy double play while we went down to Waverly 4-0. Not much in this game as Sam went the distance on the mound giving up 9 hits in seven innings with 6 strikeouts for another good solid game by the rookie hurler. A very tight game as our defence was outstanding again holding the Reds to the lowest score of the season. Alex had a great day behind the dish as the training we had last week paid dividends with as I believe was our first man caught stealing for the year by our catching staff.
Francisco made a couple of good plays at second including a couple of quick double plays. Only mustering one hit for the day we must improve on as it will be certain to meet these guys in the finals. All in all a good solid game by all so keep your heads up guys more to come later as we meet LaTrobe Uni next week who are sitting in second place and need to be shown we are in the hunt this season.

3rd nine vs Waverley at home Lost 4-2
Hits 2  Paul shipp    1 Joey Yu Paul C Peter Clapp Barry Cranston RBI's 1 Peter Clapp
Unlike last week when we had 1 left on base in 42 at bats this week we had 11 left on base in 28 at bats and the score show the result of that. Waverley had a good young kid pitching but we failed to make the most of our opportunities. Paul C pitched the whole game thank-you to Tony Clapp who caught and welcome to Kena and Will up from the 4th and Paul Shipp who after 3 years returned and lead us with the batting. There were a couple of fielding errors but in the whole everyone did their job you can't expect to win to many game with only 2 runs. Another week off next week, see you in two.

4th nine vs Ringwood - Lost 1-16
5th nine vs nobody as they didn't have enough players
Under 15s vs Forest Hill - Lost 2-4
The game was pretty close through the whole game. Steve started on the mound this week and did a fantastic job. He pitched in 2&1/3 innings and allowed 3 runs only until the pitch count let him come out. Corey came in after Steve and also showed his great skill in pitching with a high percentage of strikes. As well, our fielders picked up some ground balls and backed up the pitchers.
However, our strong hitting did not appear in the batter box for the first 3 innings. In the last inning, we finally smashed the pitches and a triple by Will and a double by Steve brought us 2 runs.
We did a pretty good job in the field though, we need to be more aggressive in the batter box and try to hit every strike.
Under 13s vs Ringwood Angels - Lost 7-6
A fantastic game against the team at the top of the ladder and one that really surprised the top of the ladder team. Tim started on the mound and after a shaky start struck out 4 and went into the 3rd innings (of three completed innings) which is the virtually the furthest that any pitcher has gone this year.
After two innings we were up 6-2 and playing really well. In the last couple of innings however Ringwood were able to get a couple of hits and reached the lead at the end of the third. In the bottom of the third we had the chance to draw level with a runner 3rd with no outs however the Ringwood pitcher was pretty good and then proceeded to strike out the side.
Everyone played really well and took it up to the top team but were just a couple of plays away from a big upset win. Well done. |
