UPMIRES

Dear player,

The club depends on the volunteer contribution of its players to ensure it maintains its basic operations. Referees are no exception and we need players to umpire for local games. There is no need to be a professional umpire basic knowledge of the game will suffice. In return, players get a chance to brush-up their umpiring skills and their knowledge of the game. You will also be eligible for a free hot dog and drink.

In order to be fair to everyone, the club has produced a draft umpire roster. Please check it out and note when you are umpiring. You will need to find replacement if you cannot umpire your game. Replacement arrangements can be made with Jason Smith on 9421 2887 or 0432 547 222.

Results

1st nine vs Melton - Won 14-1

RBI’s: O’Meara 4, Keyhoe 4, Billy 2, Matty H 1

Hits: Keyhoe 3, O’Meara 2, Speedy 2, Billy 2, Matty H 2, Lenny 1

Summary:

Roadworks on the way out to Melton cut down our pre match warm-up to about 10 minutes so we were lucky to get away with a good start. After a great match last week, Speedy led us off with a hit and started a 3 run first innings. We scored consistently for the rest of the game. The pitching for Melton was OK but their defense was poor.

Aaron had his first start in the firsts and did a fantastic job. 2 walks and a hit in their first innings allowed runners on base and they scored 1 run but from that time on he knuckled down and threw a high percentage of strikes. Aaron only threw to 3 batters each innings for the rest of the game.

A solid game by North Balwyn that has put us back in the top 4. We need to cement this position over the next few games.

Training for the next 2 Thursdays but no training on the long weekend. Let’s all have a short break and return refreshed for the Doncaster game.

2nd nine - BYE

3rd nine vs Knox - Lost 4-16

Not  a lot to say about this one. Knox had a young bloke pitching that could throw the ball hard, he should have a good career playing in the higher grades, we didn't have to many hits from him. When they came to bat they hit the ball, more into the gaps and chinkers overs the infield than power hitting, and they scored a lot of runs.

4th nine vs Northcote Lions - Lost 3-18

A much better game for us despite the score line, and we really needed was to string a few hits together, however a few dropped fly balls cost us many runs late in the. But for the most part fielding was generally good. Thanks to Jade and Joseph Tu for filling as well as Guy Lamoth and Tom Dundan. Alan Wise pitched good game and we welcomed Mal Fawcett to the team, who had a
good day in the field for his 1st run. However the honours went to Jason

Povey with a stand up double followed by a solo home run next innings. Final score 18-3.
Hits: Jason 1HR, 1 double, single base hits to Guy and Joseph.

5th nine vs Croydon - Lost 3-21

Under 15s - BYE

Under 13s vs Knox - Lost 3-19

A pretty tough ask this week against very experienced team which threw the ball hardand fielded pretty well. The highlight of the day was a hit by Niall to score Tim in the bottom of the first.
