FIXTURES
The VWBL has released the full fixtures of the season, please check the North Balwyn web site for them.  D Grade is only up to Round 8 as a team has been entered or taken out again.  Lets hope this is finalised so it is easier for all of us. ===================================================
UPMIRES
A big thank you to people who umpired this week. A reminder that when it is your turn IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO FIND A REPLACEMENT. Now that the fixture has been pretty much done, Jason Smith will be preparing the full umpire fixture for the remainder of the season. It will be posted on the net and as of the break, Jason will only be calling to remind you that it is your turn. You will only have to do it once or twice during the season and after all, without an umpire there is no game.
If you have not umpired yet or do not like the idea of having to, the club has a number of nationally qualified umpires.  Please see anyone of the following:
Henry Huang, Michael Huang, Randall Vavra, Steven Yao, Matthew Houlden, Sam Chan, Peter Canney - I am sure there are other qualified umpires but I can't remember you.

1st nine vs Diamond Creek - Won 6-2
RBI's: Keyhoe 2, Speedy, O'Meara 1 each Hits: Speedy 2, Keyhoe 1
A hard fought match on Saturday saw North Balwyn take the 2 points. We started well this week, shutting them down in the first then pushing a run ourselves to take the early lead. We did not get a great deal of hits but plenty of free bases due to erratic pitching, poor fielding and the sun.
It was pleasing to see players taking advantage of their opportunities. Speedy led off in Mattys absence and started us off with a near perfect running bunt in the first and then a cracking line drive later in the game to score more runs. Aaron was asked to catch at the last minute in his first game and did a great job, the highlight being a plate block to a flying Diamond Creek player with flailing cleats. Nick Chao started at right field for his first game in the firsts and took a couple of great flies early to shut down the opposition. Yoshi was again good on the mound and importantly gave up no walks whilst actually getting 3 himself while batting.
As pointed out before the game, we all enjoy playing baseball but it is much more fun when you win. If players are prepared to sacrifice their own time at bat for the sake of the team, we are more likely to score more runs. I noticed a trend in both firsts and seconds this week towards this goal and the result is 2 wins and everyone enjoying their baseball.
If anyone wants lift to Melton next week please contact David on 0412 356 570, I can fit 6 in my car. We might meet at Myrtle Park.
A big THANK YOU to Andy for the photos at the game. Yoshi pitching! Billy making a BIG swing!
2nd nine vs Diamond Creek - Won 7-6
Another fabulous effort from the young guns this week as we nipped the Diamond Creek boys 7-6 by getting two runs in the bottom of the last inning to take it away form them. Well done boys. Welcome Sam Taylor as I'm sure he will be a great addition to the club. Welcome back to Hugh with a hit at his first appearance this year who has been patiently waiting on the sidelines during his stint on the DL, looks as though we will be seeing much of him in years to come. Also welcome to Andy who played a key role in the win having a lot of action at second base during the day and scoring the tying run. We went out and scored the first three innings and then couldn't bring anyone home the next two digs but came back the last to bring home the bacon. Alex had a great day behind the plate while James had a fantastic day on the mound striking out 7 and only giving up 6 walks most of which were late in the game as he went the distance. Chris's bat has come alive as he got hits when needed the last couple of games. Well done to all. Keep up the good work and we will see you all in the finals later this year.
Hits - Chris - 2, Sam, James, Chao, Dave, Hugh & Joey - 1 RBIs - James & Joey - 2, Chao, Chris & Randall - 1

3rd nine vs Waverley - Won 6-18
5 hits Garry Shipp 4 Hits Paul C 2 Hilts Tristan Hsu Peter Clapp 1 Hit Victor Ting, Tony Clapp, Barry Cranston RBI 3 Garry Shipp Paul C Peter Clapp Steven Yao 2 Tony Clapp 1 Barry Cranston Tristan Hsu Tom Dundon
Well done to all the boys on Saturday, lots of hits and no errors. Welcome back to playing Crano and welcome back David Boell. The game started of with us batting through the whole order scoring 4 runs, excellent start until Waverley came out and did the same thing and I thought this is going to be another tough day at the office.
At the start of the 3rd dig we were 2 runs down, we had 2 base on balls, 2 outs, and 2 strikes on the batter. By the end of the 3rd we were 3 runs up and Peter after being hit in his throwing arm earlier in the game gave up only 1 more hit for the remainder of the game.
Great game Garry, 5 hits from 5 at bats, 2 to left 2 to centre and 1 to right. Great batting Tristan as well, 4 at bats 2 hits and 2 base on balls. Tom Dundon provided the At Bat of the day, laying down a sacrifice bunt to the perfect spot between the pitcher and 3rd base, the runners on 1st and 2nd advanced and when a wild throw went to 1st Tom ran to 2nd and we scored an RBI.
The play of the day goes to Tristan and Steven. Tristan caught a fly ball at centre field throwing to Steven at short stop/Second base, Steven tags both 1st and 2nd base runners, 2nd trying to get back to base and the first who was standing on second. (yes they were new players but it is not often you get 3 out in the one play).
4th nine vs Doncaster - Lost 0-16
Not a good week for us as Doncaster swept us aside with a top defense and punished a few mistakes in the field with their offence. Special thanks to Will and Adam for being early and starting on the ground set-up, Alan Wise for his relief pitching and Michael Huang for his efforts, on and off the ground. We also would like to welcome James Wilkinson to the club.
16-0 loss with only one hit from Michael Huang.
5th nine vs Bundoora - Lost 18-3
It was an unhappy day for 5ths because with only 7 players turned up for the game. Matt Wang did not show up due to a malfunctioned alarm clock. New player James turn up at home ground due to a miscommunication.
As for the game, Ben Wang pitched the whole game with good quality performance. However, fielding did not back him up. Kana Chan with 2 hits and 2 SBs. Henry Huang and Ben Wang both with 1 hit, 1 SB and 1 RBI. Sam Kao with 1 hit and 1SB.
Under 15s - No Game
No game this week.
Under 13s vs Waverley Black - Lost 10-5
A good effort this week where the final score does not show how close the game was. The batting is really starting to improve with some solid hits right through the lineup. Tim pitched well
