North Balwyn News 2006 Round 12

For those who can't read the email please visit the newsletter section of our website at http://www.northbalwyn.baseball.com.au/newsletter/

From the desk:

What better feeling than seeing the inspirational play of one of our juniors palying a vital role in keeping North Balwyn "in the Game". Tony Clapp fielded balls with major league precision and took to the batting box with the same intensity. Reeling off hits that put him on base and drove in runs, Tony showed what his future holds. There were moments of super plays by other team members who are always trying their best and those couple of spectacular catches and stops were duly noted. But the 'player of the game', that I watched most of last week (8/7/06) was Tony Clapp.

With the finals coming up and teams with chances to get into play offs, lets make sure we arrive looking clean and well presented, representing NBBC with pride.

Results

1st Nine vs Bundoora - WON 11-6

North Balwyn have gone a long way to assuring 3rd spot with an indifferent win over now 6th placed Bundoora. North Balwyn received a bit of help in the 1st when an error at second base allowed the first base runner of the day. From there, North Balwyn proceeded to open the scoring account until John Anderson stepped up to the plate and with no help at all (except from a big hanging curve) proceeded to put the ball into the outer at left field. With one hit, John effictively ending the home run title.

With a 7-0 lead, North Balwyn allowed Bundoora back into the match with a couple of walks and errors, things that will have to be worked on in the coming weeks. Towards the end however, the bats picked up again piling on a few more runs to put the game beyond doubt.

Hits: John 1HR,  Matt 1DB, Billy 1DB, Yoshi 1, Chao 1, Lenny 1

2nd Nine vs Bundora - WON 13-8

The seconds started well and continued throughout on the weekend and with the win over 6th placed Bundoora, move back up to 4th position on the ladder. A game clear of Latrobe University. However, percentage will be a factor unless another win can be foudn over 3rd placed Waverley next week. Big game!

4th Nine vs Watsonia - Lost 23-15

A 2 hour game and only 3 innings. Clearly a batters day. We started well with 4 runs, 3 from a home run by Ben Wang, but Watsonia came back with 9 and our heads droped for the 2nd inning scoring none and giving up another 8. However starting the 3rd with 2 hits followed by a homer by Jason Smith gave us a boost. With a further 3 hits, a walk and an error followed by a home run by Jason Povey and we were back in it. Yet another home run by Jason Smith and we trailed by only 2. But time was short and Watsonia also kept hitting, it was over. However, it was a great effort all around. Plenty to build on for next week against Knox.

5th Nine vs Northcote - Lost 4-17

Today saw the 5ths against Forest Hill. Although we lost this match 24: 5, all teammates were showing tenacity no matter whether in batting or defending, especially Jason Huang who had 3 hits in that game. However, when Henry Huang tried to steal in the last inning(5), the catcher threw the ball to 3rd base for pining down Henry which caused him injury and blooding in his head. Unfortunately the game had to be call, lucky it was just a flesh wound and Henry was ok.

Under 13s vs BYE - Good to see all at the training session.

Training - Wed 4:45pm to 5:45pm at our home ground.

**DAMLOW NOMINATION**

James Roy - Well it was only a matter of time I guess...

James on the hill, one out, bases loaded. Come backer straight to the pitcher, runner has to run home but instead of throwing to the catcher for a certain double play, he charges the runner on the line who stops and starts before finally getting tagged out for the second out in the inning.

Well done!

Anything else like that? It will have to take something pretty special to top that.
