From the desk..

Dear Members and Players,

The North Balwyn Baseball Club was established in 1937, in 2007 the Club will celebrate our 70th Anniversary. Plans are already underway to hold a Gala Celebration Dinner to mark the event. Past players, committee members and supporters will be advised as details progress. It will be a catered function, semi formal and children and juniors will be included in a specially catered celebration. Details will appear at regular intervals on the NBBC web site.

The Club Rooms at Myrtle Park will be completed shortly and ready for the end of season celebrations, we are all very proud of the way NBBC has conducted itself players, umpiring duties, scorers and supporters alike. The club is moving forward towards 2007 with a positive attitude to recruitment and team building. The committee is meeting regularly to ensure that all matters relating to the future status of NBBC is recognised and respected as a Club that cares about its players, members and supporters.

We have embarked on a sponsorship drive and as we notify you of those sponsors on the NBBC webb site that we ask you to show your support to the companies that are helping us move forward. The NBBC will benefit from your support of those companies on a continuing basis through discounts , gifts and equipment purchases. I have only been involved with the club for a short period of time and I am enjoying the challenges that have been placed before me. I am open to any suggestions that will help and support building the future of NBBC.

Any help that we can get on weekends at home games with the B-B-Q and Canteen will be greatly appreciated. There are three vital elements to any club prospering, a hard working committee, involved supporters and team encouragement. The fact that NBBC has a strong social element is vital and this must be highlighted to both our overseas players, their families, supporters and our local families and neighbours at Myrtle Park. Responsible behaviour and social responsibility is very important to the NBBC and everyone at the club shares this responsibility equally. Please enjoy the rest of the season with us and help build toward a successful North Balwyn Baseball Club 70th year Anniversary.

Most importantly HAVE FUN!

Kindest regards,

Peter Canney

President

1st Nine vs Latrobe Uni - Won 7-1

The 1sts have continued their winning ways with an indifferent win over Latrobe Uni. North Balwyn came out firing in the first with a string of hits setting up 5 runs in the opening inning. That is pretty much where the fireworks ended as the bats remained quiet for almost the entire match after that. The defence held solid all day with some of the best plays you will ever see being made by Carlos at short-stop. 3 plays in the hole and one outstanding catch were the highlight on the afternoon. Hits went to, Tim 3 ( 2dbls), Carlos 2, Speedy 2, Matt, Billy, John, James, Lenny 1. RBIs went to Tim, Carlos, John, Speedy 1.

On the mound, Andrew Speed was outstanding, going the distance with 7 innings pitched,  1 run,  0 earned runs,  3Ks, 4 hits

With the win, North Balwyn have somewhat cemented their position in the top three now two games and percentage clear of 4th placed Bundoora.

3rd Nine vs Doncaster - WON 6-3

We won 6-3 This was one of the best wins I have had at North Balwyn. It was a great team effort which is one of the most pleasing things to see. We were not reliant on any one individual, although Peter Clapp on the mound (pitching the whole game) and keeping a good hitting side to 3 runs was out standing effort. Jack catching with a long back fence did not allow runs scored from passed balls yet we got a couple that way. The outfield captained in the centre by Jimmy Lee with 5 catches with support from Sam Chan and Joey Yu both taking their fair share as well (no errors) was outstanding. Five outs from Tony Clapp at 2nd to Gary at first base also outstanding. Barry and Paul contributed by getting hit in the batters box which got us on base and eventually scored. The batting was very pleasing everyone accounted for themselves against a good quick young pitcher. All in all a very pleasing win. A little more noise on the bench and in the field won't go astray though.

The win has elevated the thirds to 6th on the ladder, only a couple of games from the big 4!

4th Nine vs Doncaster - Lost 4-11

Dispite again being short (8 players) we challenged Doncaster for most of the game, failing in the last with a few back to back errors. Even so, a better effort in the field. Our offence did lack a little, though every player made to base and with Dave Boell hitting 2-3, had them worried after 3 innings trailing 3-6. Final score, 4-11.

5th Nine vs Watsonia - Lost 4-24

The 5ths tried hard all day but facing one of the top ranked state women's pitchers in the state and an experienced Watsonia lineup is no easy feat. They tried hard all day and managed to score a few runs.

Under 13s vs Waverley - WON 9-8

The boys continuing fielding/batting improvement including "looking for strikes" realised their first "on the park" victory for the season with every player either scoring or driving in a run. A season high 6 hits for the game from Zac, Liam, Tom Gray, Declan (Double) & Seb (2 singles, 3RBI) plus walks that scored from Tommy & Rob resulted in a total of 9 runs scored. Starting pitcher Jerome (3 K's & 6 walks in windy conditions) combined with relief from Tom Gray & Seb to "no-hit" the opposition despite 8 runs being "walked-in". Many thanks to Tom's brother Rob for filling in due to school holiday shortages.

This is the first win of the year and a fantastic one at that!

**DAMLOW NOMINATION**

Supercoach Tim O'Meara has received a nomination for his impersonation of Guus Hiddink at the game against Waverley last week 24th June. It was a lovely suit and he even had the worried look towards the end of the game.
