1st Nine vs Westgarth - Lost 1-12
A disappointing game really considering how many times most of the team has faced the starting pitcher form Westgarth. Former player Stuart 'Barby' Wilemson. The game started well with a hit with the first at bat of the game and despite managing to get to third, was unable to score. It was the story of the day really with 5 sporadic hits Matt 2, Tim 1, John 1, Chao 1. Too many not able to drive home the runs. Supercoach Timmy with the only RBI of the day. Aaron, did well behind the dish replacing Billy who spent the weekend in lovely Adelaide.
12 runs is the largest total given up all year however, North Balwyn still remain in 3rd position, with percentage seperating 3rd and 4th. Next week sees a big game against a much improved Waverley outfit in front of hopefully a VERY LARGE crowd.

2nd Nine vs Westgarth - Drew 11-11
An injury to Alex Canney saw master renovator Peter Canney come out of retirement for his first game in over 30 years. It proved a critical place to fill as after Steven Yao started well on the mound, Randall threw the ball to Peter who calmly proceeded to retire 5 batters in a row to end the game all square. 11 - 11. The point is important as it keeps North Balwyn in third spot just above a chasing pack of Waverley, Bundoora and Latrobe Uni all only a game or two behind. The game this week against Waverley couldn't be more important.

3rd Nine vs Research - Won 6-2
A good team effort this week, everyone got a hit and got on base at some point. One down bases loaded in the first innings and only scored 1 run which was disappointing but we only had 2 fielding errors for the day which is a marked improvement. There were a couple of outstanding highlights for the game. 2nd innings after Tony Clapp and Jack Rintoul both getting hits to 7 and 9 respectively Nick laid down the perfect sacrifice bunt down the 1st base line to move them round then with 2 out Garry Shipp came up with a hit to centre and scored 2, his second hit for the day. Paul ConheadyI started on the mound and Peter Clapp came into relieve. We managed to keep them to only 4 hits for the game and with only the 2 fielding errors this made the difference. We welcome Joey Yu to the 3rds for his first game, outstanding job at 2nd with a great play in the last dig to stretch out and grab a ball that was virtually passed him then to throw to 1st for the out. The other highlight was in last dig, Paul Conheady on third from a 3 base hit, none out, Barry Cranston at bat. Garry puts the bunt on. The pitch was high outside Barry reaches over bunts the ball just out, until the curve of the land brought it back in and we scored a run.
On the ladder front, North Balwyn have caught up to the field and now sit on three wins for the season. A couple more wins will see them jump up the ladder.

4th Nine vs Watsonia - Lost 1-19
With only seven players there is not much we could do. Anyhow, we made the best of a bad situation by trying a few players in different positions, and for the most part it worked. Frank did well at SS as did Glenis at 2nd base. Thanks to those who sub fielded for us. Thanks to Ting-Kuo Lin for starting on the mound and to Matt who had his first go.
5th Nine vs Ringwood - Lost 3-17
No Match report submitted. Can someone please let me know what happens each week. Only has to be short. Doesn't matter who, anyone can send me a small report. Pictures also welcome.
Under 13s vs Knox - Drew 5-5
The boys earned a great comeback 5-5 tie after being 5-0 down early (and earned a morale victory with the "winning" run scored by Tom G after time in the bottom of the 4th). Liam scored his first runs of the season with some "entertaining" base running, Jerome scored the game tying RBI and put in 2-1/3 innings of relief hitless pitching  (including striking out the side in the third) after another solid start by Seb with both pitchers being well caught by Declan. Disciplined batting with the bases loaded in the 2nd saw RBI's to both Ben E & Ben W. Niall's "streak" of reaching base in every game continued with two "first pitch" singles recorded in the 1st & 2nd.
Amazingly, in the first game of the year against Knox, the teams had another draw, that time 6-6.

DAMLOW NOMINATIONS?
I guess nobody is reading this part of the newsletter as nobody seemed even the slightest bit interested in the $250,000 prize!!! There will be no secret code word this week, just a few Damlow nominations which after the first couple of rounds, seemed to have dried up.
1) - Garry Shipp yes brilliant idea squeeze bunt, but calling out to Barry, who thankfully ignored him, to choose his pitch? Exactly Barry, choose any pitch you like as long it is the very first one as Paul Conheady was half way down the line.
2) - Matt Houlden - After stealing second and getting there with nobody within coeee and hearing a lot of shouting getting there, somehow he thinks that the ball was hit foul and starts to walk back to first. Only to realise after the 2nd baseman from Westgarth says "hey, you can go back you know", that the catcher didn't even bother to throw it and the ball was now in the hands of the pitcher. A quick head first dive sees the steal stand. Just.
3) - Aaron Hoskin - After returning from the usual pre-match routine at the plate, Matt Houlden announces to all players that there were to be new rules today. "4 strikes and you are out". To which Aaron replies "What??? Really?"
Anything like this - Please nominate someone to: Doesn't have to be for on-field antics either. Anything which is funny, silly or just down right stupid will suffice.
