North Balwyn News Round 4 2006

For those who can't read the email please visit the newsletter section of our website at http://www.northbalwyn.baseball.com.au/newsletter/

Availability: With Wednesday Night being the training and selection night, can all players please let their coach or someone know of their availability no later than the Wednesday prior to the weekends game. That way we can ensure that all teams have enough players for the match.

Uniform: Ripken has organised caps and this week will organise tops for those that don't have them. He is in Taiwan this week and should be back with the gear for this weekend. Hats are available for $20 and tops are around the $65 mark.

From the 1sts right down to the juniors, everybody wears the same uniform, hat, top and pants. It is important that people that don't have full uniforms yet try to organise to get one.

If you anticipate only using the uniform for a year or so, the club will be able to organise to buy the gear off you at an agreeable rate.

FEES ARE NOW DUE!!!

They are as follows.

Juniors $100 with $15 for top and $10 for pants

Full time students - $165

Seniors - $225

The deadline to pay before the price increases $15 for students and adults has been extended to this week 20th May.

If you don't pay by the 4th playing day (Saturday Week 20th May) then the fees for students and seniors will increase by $15 and become $180 and $240 for seniors so try and get something organised ASAP. If you think you might have some trouble paying fees, just come and speak to someone and we can work out some arrangement. Please just come and speak to us.

Training this week 17th May will be the same as last week: Elgar Park, 47B4 where eastern freeway exits at Elgar Road. Juniors at 5:30pm to 7pm.

Seniors from 7pm.

Results

1st Nine vs Forest Hill - Lost 6-3

While Forest Hill were always expected to be tough, North Balwyn have shown that with a bit of improvement this year, a challenge can certainly be made this year. The game started in tight fashion with scoring not starting until the 2nd. Forest Hill opened with a 1 run lead until a few errors and hits allowed them to accrue a 4-0 lead. Increased pressure and noise from the bench saw the Forest Hill starter begin to spray the ball walking bases loaded and allowing North Balwyn to score 3 runs to close up the game. In the next, Forest Hill lead off with a hit followed later in the inning by a huge home run to the big right-field fence to increase their lead to 6-3. Despite runners on in the final dig, North Balwyn was unable to come up with the final hit needed to draw or win the game. Next time.

2nd Nine vs Forest Hill- Lost 11-0

Randall Vavra got his fist taste of the brand new mound this week and started well before the experience of Forest Hill shone through towards the end of the game.

3rd Nine vs Footscray - Lost 17-8

The thirds lost 17-8 this week against the top of the table Footscray. Unfortunately the score does not represent how the game went. The score was Nth Balwyn 5-3 by the bottom of the 4th with Peter Clapp pitching an excellent game. Unfortunately with a couple of errors and Footscray starting to hit the ball and a few lucky ones falling in, a 1 to 9 fifth innings saw the score blow out a bit. Paul changed to the mound to finish off the innings and they continued to hit in their last to get another 5 runs to our 2. There are some definite positives appearing from our game, and with a little bit of consistency for the full 2 hrs will see us do extremely well. A bit more talk and encouragement when on the bench and in the field will also go a long way.

4th Nine vs Footscray- Lost 9-0

Again we started with only 8 players. I received 3 appologies, and used 2 fill-ins to make up the numbers. It is bad enough that only 2 players made practice this week. So once again it showed with errors and a lack luster batting effort. The game was also marred by a nasty injury that sent a player to hospital. I have been told he will make a full recovery.

5th Nine vs Bundoora - Won 9-0

The ground was marked to within a cm, the players were all there on time, the only thing missing was the other team. It seemed that Bundoora had gone to Ringwood. Despite the fixture saying North Balwyn. Oh well.

Under 13s vs Ringwood - Lost 11-0

A pretty tough game this one which started well in the first inning with Jerome on the mound. But with each inning Ringwood increase their lead. Only a hit from Ben Ebbage saved North Balwyn from a no hitter.

Damlow Nominations:

No nominations this week for the Damlow award. A reminder to all newcomers that the Damlow Award is for something silly, funny or just downright stupid that someone might do on or off field during the course of the season. All nominations can be sent to:
