1st Nine vs Westgarth - Drew 7-7
Returning from A-Grade in 2005, Westgarth were always going to be a tough challenge. However a slight improvement by all over the summer has shown that the 1sts are capable of matching it with anyone after a dissapointing draw on the weekend. After opening the scoring, Westgarth were well held by North Balwyn who went into the second half with a large lead. However, errors at critical times allowed Westgarth to creep back into the match to come within 1 at the last inning. Needing to hold Westgarth for one final inning, it was unfortunately an unearned run that allowed Westgarth to draw the match level in the final inning. In the bottom of the last, North Balwyn was struck out to end the match all square. North Balwyn remain on top of the ladder after 2 rounds.
2nd Nine vs Westgarth - Lost 4-0
All in all a very good performance by the 2nds this week, going down to Westgarth 5-0. Although our average age is not real young our experience level is still very young and most of our pitching arms are a bit sore. A couple of costly errors saw us down 3-0 after the first inning. Then they only picked up a couple of runs over the next 7 innings due to a couple more errors. There were some very good plays in the field that left men on base so our defence is getting there but still needs a bit of tightening up. There were some good hits on the offensive side but we couldn't string them together. It looks as though this is going to be a very tough competition this year so we must play a much tidier game if we want to make an appearance in the finals.
3rd Nine vs Forest Hill - ?
No Match Report Submitted again - Can someone please organise one for next game and each game.
4th Nine vs Forest Hill - Lost 10-11
The fourths lost 11-10, a game we should have won. However with only 8 players it was a great effort from all. Every one reached base with almost all getting safe hits, some 14 in all including a whopping grandslam from Darwin in his last game for us. Fielding was good as was baserunning but pitching let us down with some 8 walks and a hpb though only 6 hits. I am sure with practice we will over come this.
5th Nine vs Forest Hill - Lost 21-3
Matt Wang started on the flat and good defense saw Watonia limited to 1 run in the opening inning. In the bottom of the first D_Jeff Chung got on first base by a nice hit to center, however, North Balwyn weren't able to score him.
The second inning was even better as Watsonia went three up and three straight back down. In the bottom of the 2nd, Ira and Michal had two long base hits to score one and Peter Lin also followed up with another for the 2nd run.
However, that is where the game turned as Matt started to struggle and errors only compounded the problems allowing 9 runs across the plate.
A change on the flat saw Tristan Hsu for a pitch however he too struggled with again errors compounding the problems. Another 10 runs and the game was done but not before enough fun was had by all.
Under 13s vs Waverley - Lost 5-0
A tight close game that in the end could have gone either way. Our pitching did well including Niall on his first outing. A couple of hits were crushed only to be caught by the Waverley fielders. If a couple of those hits fell it might have been a different storey. |
