1st Nine vs Waverley - Won 10-0
Certainly a good way to start the season against an unknown opposition. Last year in the corresponding fixture, North Balwyn jumped out to a 8-0 lead before going down by a very small margin. After starting in a similar fashion this time, we were not about to allow it to happen again. Returning from Japan at 7am the morning of the game, Yoshi was outstanding on the mound only giving up two hits all day. Offensively, everyone contributed moving guys over and managning to score guys form third which last year was an issue. Next week sees our first home game of the season against 2005 A-Grade team Westgarth. This is sure to be a tough match.
2nd Nine vs Waverley - Lost 7-12
bit of a rocky start for the 2nds this season going down to the Waverly boys 12-7. Aaron went 2 for 3 as did Victor, well done with the bat guys. We out hit Waverly 8 to 6 but they outplayed us in the field as we had 6 errors to their 1. This was the difference in the game so when we tighten up the defence we will be in good shape. Looks like it should be a good year with a lot of promising young talent to come forward with.
3rd Nine vs Knox - ?

4th Nine vs Knox - Lost 10-0
The 4ths did an ok job considering the team we were facing. The of 10-0 score was not as bad as it sounds as there were only 4 hits against us. 7 walks and 1 hpb did the damage as well as 6 errors, however it was encouraging to see both 3rd base and short stop getting behind the ball. The real problem lay in the batting with only 1 base hit. Lin and Anthony shared the pitching with a reasonable effort. Angus Brown ran down 2 great fly balls and showed great composure. A big thanks to John Cornell who caught half the game and helped with spurring the team on.
Under 13s vs Knox - Lost 10-0
A fantatsic effort by both teams first up. With almost an entirely different team from last year, the team did well and opened the scoring in the first with a couple of runs. Unfortunately on two occaisons, bases were left loaded which in the end could have proved costly. Sebastian started on the mound and was relieved well by first timer Ben Ebbage who proceeded to strike out the side to end the match all square. Next week sees our first home game against Waverley. |
