Stingers prepare to represent Australia in 2010 Pan Pacs masters games

Frenchie, Sunday, 22 November 2009

2010 PAN PACS TOURING TEAMS

The Pan Pacific Masters Games are a fixture of the masters sporting calendar. They are held on the Gold Coast and centred in Broadbeach. The 2009 games were bigger than the Sydney Olympic games by 3 fold for competitor numbers.

The baseball section is highly sort after with many teams dismissing the Australia games to attend Pan Pacs.

Masters Baseball together with women’s baseball are not only the fastest growing baseball arms they are the only growing arms for the sport over the last 5 years. This in its self is good for the sport as master’s players have children and time to invest in clubs and teams and the trickle down to senior and junior baseball is there.

If you are 35+ and interested in participating or helping out, please see the Stingers Pan Pacs webpage.

Numbers are limited so to reserve your seat please email alan.read@rubicon.com.au or telephone 9832 3032 during business hours.

The program comprises:

  • "Club Seminar Program" for committees of management of existing or prospective licence holders; and

  • "Responsible Serving of Alcohol" for committees and those involved in actual service of alcohol.

In addition, we will also focus on the Responsible Consumption of Alcohol consistent with the goals of the Federal Government's National Binge Drinking Campaign and Victoria's Alcohol Action Plan

The Club has determined to take a leadership role in encouraging all Clubs within the precinct to undertake appropriate training, not only for the responsible service and consumption of alcohol but in the development of measures they can adopt to provide good role models and assist in changing attitudes away from excessive and 'at risk' drinking.

The Club wishes to develop a culture of moderation and responsibility. In these ways we wish to both "Raise the Bar" in terms of the standard of behaviour of Clubs using the sporting precinct and, through them, more broadly into the community; and, "Raze the Bar" in terms of taking a different approach to so called 'binge' or excessive drinking.

The Club is working with former Liquor Licensing manager, Mr Colin Mann, to develop and present the program.

NBBC Project Co-ordinator, Alan Read; Presenter Colin Mann; Snr Sgt Rod Phillips

The program will benefit members of the clubs; junior members and their parents; residents in the immediate vicinity of the Parks; and the community generally. It may also serve as a model for clubs in other precincts and lead to both a greater adoption of the "Good Sports" program specifically designed for sporting clubs.

The first session was also attended by Snr Sgt Rod Phillips who is the officer in charge of Liquor Licensing within the City of Boroondara.

We hope that 'Razing the Bar' is just a beginning in the journey to change our attitudes, our culture, and our social responsibility and we very much wish to involve residents to gain your input and perspective.

Club representatives attend "Responsible Serving of Alcohol"

Any residents, clubs or persons interested in participating in the program or wishing to contribute to the program, should contact the North Balwyn Baseball Club by email to northbalwynbc@yahoo.com; phone Project Co-ordinator, Alan Read, on 9832 3034 (BH); or register your interest with the Club by mailing the following to the Club together with any suggestions you may have.
